Help Hydros save the oceans this World Ocean’s Day!

The oceans have it all.

From microscopic organisms to the largest living animal to have ever lived, from the boiling to the frozen, from the murky to the mysterious, and from the sunlit to the deepest and the darkest secrets of the planet. Oceans are an essential component of the Earth's ecosystem - a source of biodiversity, food, and life, and that’s just the icing on the cake.

This World Ocean’s Day, we thought we’d tell you something.

It’s never too late to start learning about the many benefits our oceans provide. Without them, life (or in fact, even the planet) could not exist. While this list might be endless, here are a few reasons why we need to rally together and save our seas:

• Oceans are an important source of food. Who can resist the seaweed thins from gimMe snacks! Oceans host 80 percent of the planet’s biodiversity, and are the largest ecosystem on earth!

• They help regulate our climate. The oceans are the planet’s thermostat. Did you know that the oceans absorb a quarter of all the carbon dioxide that humans put into the atmosphere?

• They influence our health and well-being. After all, we all know that water is known to calm and reduce anxiety in people! 

• They provide vital renewable energy. As you read this, devices are being developed to generate electricity from waves, tides and offshore wind farms.

• They provide jobs to around 820 million people That’s a lot of people in Fisheries and aquaculture

• They provide drinking water for dry countries. In some part of the world where fresh water isn’t available, they rely solely on desalination plants for drinking water. 

Like we said before, the oceans really do have it all.

But now they need your help. As humans, our actions are putting our oceans (and our environment) under threat. While overfishing and climate change are just two of the main problems, plastics are the real cause that are destroying our oceans.

That corresponds to the weight of nearly 700 billion plastic bottles.
